HELPING FOOD SHARE TO ALLEVIATE HUNGER

FOOD Share's major activities and programs include food distribution to hungry friends through non-profit partners throughout Ventura County, as well as its own direct service programs.

Nutritious food, both perishable and non-perishable, are distributed through the FOOD Share warehouses to 160 non-profit partners. These partners include small food pantries, soup kitchens and even homeless shelters. Once approved, these agencies pick-up food from the food bank that is then used to feed those that are served by these partners. Current partner agencies, include the Rescue Mission, Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Clubs and many, many others.

In addition to its partners, FOOD Share also provides programs run directly through the food bank. This includes Community Market Distributions, which are free farmers markets in extremely low-income areas, a Kids Farmer's Market that is a comprehensive program that provides a free farmer's market experience, partnered with a cooking and nutrition lesson. This program targets low-income children and is operated in partnership with local after-school programs. Another program operated by the food bank, is its Brown Bag program for seniors. This program provides supplemental groceries every other week to over 2000 low-income seniors. Lastly, FOOD Share has contracted nutrition educators that provide nutrition education to hungry friends and agencies, as well as CAL Fresh Outreach workers providing education and application assistance as an additional resource.
